Project Summary
We created a game called Haunted Mouse where you navigate a haunted house, eating all the cheese in the mansion before Kitty, the spooky monster, eats you. The player is controlled by tilting a board, allowing the computer mouse tied to it to slide around the board, altering the player’s direction and velocity. The player has three lives, meaning you can only get caught by Kitty three times before it’s game over

Alt Controller
Our alternative controller uses a computer mouse, but the player never touches the mouse. They tilt the board underneath the mouse instead, using gravity to move their player throughout the map. The mouse is tied to the board using strings, so that it stays in its upright orientation during play
The typical use of the mouse is recontextualized with the new way of moving it. With a single player, spectators want to take over the controls and show them how it’s done. With multiple players, the mouse becomes the object of a cooperative tug-of-war.
